I think I hear the crickets...
It's been too quiet around here lately... I wonder whether we have either bored or scared them off, Luis... LOL
1/ THERE'S NOT ANY DIFFERENCE FROM CHOOSING EITHER OF THESE TWO CARPETS.
2/THE INSPECTORS SINGLED THE SCHOOL LIBRARY OUT FOR CRITICISM.
3/ I AM AT A LOSS TO UNDERSTAND WHY ZOE RESIGNED FROM HER JOB.
PLEASE CHECK IF I'M CORRECT. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

2/SINGLED THE SCHOOL LIBRARY OUT FOR CRITICISM
3/AT A LOSS TO UNDERSTAND
All right, I'll give it a try!
2 - In particular, the school library was criticised by the inspectors because of its poor lighting.
SINGLED
The inspectors singled out a criticism to the school library because of its poor lighting.
3 - I have no idea whatsoever why Zoe resigned from her job.
LOSS
I am at a loss to understand why Zoe resigned from her job.
Can anyone help on number 1? I'm at a loss here.. :)
Tips:
1. Use the word 'much'.
2. "to single out" means "to choose one person or thing from a group for special attention, especially criticism or praise", so don't use the word 'criticism'.
Angela OALD 8th doesn't agree with you on Q2.
One example says "She was singled out for criticism".
Should it be:
2-
"The inspector singled out the school library because of its poor lighting" ?
1-
"There's not much to choose between these two carpets"?
Thanks, Angela!!
What do you think, Luiz?

I agree with what 'Unknown' said. The way I worded my comment wasn't very clear. What I meant, Ana, was: "You don't single out a criticism"
Hello there,
Well, let's start this CPE thing... I must say haven't read your comments, so, my answers are result of fine searching process... lol
1 - much to choose between
2 - sinlged the school out
3 - at a loos to know
P.S: I'm still getting used to this blog, that's why I already ask you all to forgive me in advance.
What say you, Luiz?
OK, Here it goes:
Unknown, DO NOT CHANGE THE WORD GIVEN , remember? so you can write "choosing"
The possible answers for # 1 are:
1 - much/ a lot/ a great deal to choose between (either of) ...
Concerning the second one, as Angela pointed out, you single out sth or you single sth out for criticism. The words are not usually separated but if you say "single sth out" is gramatically correct, too, so...
2 - singled out the school library for criticism
Regarding # 3 the answer is:
3- at a loss to explain/ understand/ know (the reason)
you can also say "the reason over why, the reason as to why"...
so, Levi, who got medals???
should an unknown person get medals? lol
sorry, unknown "CAN't" write "choosing "
I think Ana Araújo should get the medals! The only words she omitted were 'for criticism' in sentence 2.
(Please see comments about this in previous posts.)
Wow.. maybe this post should get medals for the amount of comments it has produced!
Good idea, Ana! LOL
The 15 medals will be awarded to Ana Araújo!
